Frederick was an orderly at St Agnes Asylum and who present during Dr Bartlett's first interview with Alexander Roby.

He was later murdered under mysterious circumstances in the laundry room of the asylum (on November 5th, 1928). His death being an apparent copy of the murder of Nurse Cuthbert Yates, nearly a year earlier.

The Tall Man, while intimidating Nathaniel Browne, heavily implied that he had killed Long, but to do so he would have had to travel from Herefordshire to London in no more than an hour, a deed which would appear to be impossible.
