A detective with New Scotland Yard, this polite .well-spoken Scot is the chief investigative officer in the murder of Doctor Lionel Trollope. He interviewed Dr Bartlett and was given a lead about the Tall Man.

He became aware of the possible links between Alexander Roby and the St Agnes Asylum murders and contacted the Herefordshire police regarding that matter (although the party never heard of any outcomes from these enquiries).

Later both Nathaniel Browne and Andrew Saunders spoke to DI Taylor about their encounters with the Tall Man, and he had an identikit picture prepared with Browne's help.
