While in the palace in Carcosa the investigators ran into Yolanda, a beautiful Yhtillian noblewoman, and saved her from Coombes who was stalking her. She became their guide in the palace, and gave them sanctuary in her chambers while they made their plans against Montague Edwards.
She was asked by Alexander Roby to guide the investigators to the exit from the city, via the maze in the English Garden, where she was with Dr Bartlett and Saunders when Coombes attacked again.
Bartlett fled through the gate, and as Yolanda attempted to work out how to operate the shotgun she'd just been given, Saunders fought Coombes and was stabbed. As Saunders fell back through the gate he heard a single gunshot.
Is is not known if Yolanda killed Coombes, or vice versa.
